International Love Data Week -
ORNL National Security Sciences Social Media
Every year, laboratories, schools, and research facilities celebrate International Love Data Week, which recognizes the research, use, and management of data! In 2024, I developed social media posts about two notable data sets at ORNL.

LandScan:
Happy #lovedataweek! See if you match with ORNL’s LandScan data sets.
LandScan Global, LandScan USA, and LandScan HD provide high-resolution population data from all around the globe and account for daily human movements, such as people moving to and from work, students attending school during the day, and other common population changes from daytime to nighttime. LandScan’s clarity has been used in #disasterrecovery efforts following hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural occurrences.
All three LandScan data sets and archives are available under a Creative Commons Open-Source license at https://landscan.ornl.gov.

Population Density Tables:
Happy #lovedataweek! Match with ORNL’s Population Density Tables.
PDT tracks and reports facility occupancy estimates at different times of day at regional, subnational, and national levels. These data sets estimate occupancy of buildings as well as more other spaces, such as shipping ports and cemeteries. Data collected through PDT can be used to create more accurate population maps as well as in emergency preparations.
