Lena C. Shoemaker

Photographer, Videographer, Writer, Creator

Hi, I’m Lena! It’s great to meet you!

I’m a graduate and current master’s student at the University of Tennessee, where I earned a BA in English and cinema studies with a minor in applied music. In the fall of 2024, I returned to the University of Tennessee to pursue a master’s degree in sports management, after which I will seek employment in media production and management with a collegiate or professional sports team/business.

I aspire to work in the sports media, television, and film industries, specifically in video production, photography, or writing. I have a deep love of film and sport and love being able to create content that people can really see themselves in, whether that be through communicating stories of people's achievements or capturing people doing what they love through video or photo.

Immediately after earning my bachelor’s from UTK, I began an internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Although my title officially read "Science Writing and Communications Intern," I was exposed to and worked on numerous other media projects, including photography, video production, social media content creation, and event coordination. During my time at ORNL, I was recognized by the Communications division for embodying one of the Core Values of ORNL's culture - impact, integrity, teamwork, safety, and service.

This past summer, I spent a season in Minot, North Dakota to work as a Video Production and Broadcasting intern with the Hot Tots baseball team and Honeybees softball team. While in this position, I took on a variety of media roles, including sports video production, broadcast camera operator, broadcast camera director, sports photographer, social media, technical writer, and graphic design.

Currently, I work with the University of Tennessee Ice Vols Club Hockey teams, serving as the lead photographer for the D3 team and a content videographer for both the D1 and D3 teams. In this role, I am being challenged with managing content production for two teams at once and meeting the expectation of quick turnarounds for game day content for social media.

While at the University of Tennessee as an undergrad, I served as president of Volunteer Short Films club and collaborated with my peers on several of writing, producing, and directing projects both in the classroom and in my free time. I performed with various music ensembles, including playing bassoon in concert ensembles and alto saxophone in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and Men's Basketball Pep Band. I also worked for the marching band as a uniform manager and for UT Housing as an RA in the South Carrick dormitory.
